Villeta, August 2020 – The agricultural defensives company Tecnomyl of Sarabia Group promotes an awareness-raising campaign in crops protection, in the framework of the international year of plant health declared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).
The initiative seeks to raise awareness about how these initiatives can help to eradicate hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment and promote the economic development.
The Marketing manager of Tecnomyl Paraguay, Walmor Roim, highlighted that through the campaign called “The protection of your crops is in our hands”, Tecnomyl shows its commitment with the agriculture and with the food production in a sustainable way, by means of solutions with less impact on human and animal health, and the environment integrity.
“Tecnomyl actively participates in the agricultural sector developing, producing and commercializing solutions for crops protection and plant nutrition, providing to the farmers the newest solutions (…). This, always with the concern of bringing to the countryside the less aggressive products for people and nature. Providing sustainable and modern solutions is part of our DNA as a company”, stated Tecnomyl’s manager, Walmor Roim.
The manager detailed that Tecnomyl received FAO’s authorization to join the campaign in Paraguay, Bolivia and Brazil, countries where it commercializes the solutions that it produces, being able to include the stamp of the campaign in its advertising materials.
“We are developing a campaign nationally named The protection of your crops is in our hands. Through it, we introduce Tecnomyl’s commitment to agriculture and food production in a safe and sustainable way. The main message is that Tecnomyl reassures its commitment with the farmer, bringing the most innovative solutions to promote the food safety.“
Tecnomyl, as leader in the Paraguayan industry of crops protection, fully joins to this initiative. With this campaign, aims to raise awareness about the importance of the healthy plants to reach the goals of the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development; highlighting the impact of plants health in the food safety and the ecosystem functions, sharing the best practices to keep the plants healthy at the same time the environment is protected.
THE GLOBAL CAMPAIGN
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) are the drivers of the campaign “The protection of your crops is in our hands” which has to Tecnomyl as local representative. According to FAO’s data, plants constitute 80% of the food we eat and they produce the 98% of oxygen we breathe. Nevertheless, besides having to face the challenges resulting from the environmental degradation and climate change, they also face constant threats and increase of plagues and diseases.
Each year, up to a 40% of the food crops of the world are lost due to plant plagues and diseases. In the agricultural commerce, this causes annual loss of over 220.000 million dollars; causing millions of people suffer from hunger. The agriculture is the main source of incomes of the poor rural communities, for which the measures of plant health promotion are essential to reach a sustainable development.
By preventing the propagation and introduction of plagues in new areas, governments, farmers and other players of the food supply can save billions of dollars and guarantee the access to quality food.
Keeping the plants and vegetable products free of plagues and diseases also help to facilitate the commerce and guarantee the access to the markets, especially for the countries in development. For this, is important to reinforce the adherence to the harmonized regulations and health standards internationally. Moreover, when combat the plagues and diseases, the farmers should adopt (and the people in charge of promoting the productive policies) the use of environmentally friendly methods (such as the integrate handle of plagues), helping to keep the plants healthy at the same time that the environment is protected.
